Land in the UK can be broadly categorised into one of five groups. We thought it would be useful for our users to have a brief summary on each of these land categories which you'll find below.
Brownfield Land - A site that has previously been developed. Brownfield sites may have been used for a wide variety of former activities including, commercial buildings, housing, industry, airfields and so on.
Greenbelt Land - Areas of land usually around towns and cities that are currently protected from over development, although these areas are frequently reviewed.
Greenfield Land - As the name implies Greenfield land is green land but not zoned as Greenbelt land.
White Land - Land that has formerly had planning permission on it but this planning permission has lapsed.
AONB - Area of Outstanding National Beauty. For example, The Lake District.
SSSI - Site of Special Scientific Interest. For example, ancient woodland with endangered bird life.
